Thursday 5 July - The Return to Marrakesh |
So, my introduction to high altitude trekking was over. We departed from the Gité at 8:00am for a gentle stroll down to Imlil where our minibus awaited. The journey back to our Marrakesh hotel, where we had spent the first night, was very quiet. I was a little sad to be leaving the mountains, one of the loves of my life, but I think the body was in need of a rest after a tough ten days.
My Thoughts!!
Did the holiday meet my expectation?
- It certainly did ..... in many ways. It was my first serious walking outside the UK, and I was very impressed not only with the location I had chosen, but also the organisation of Travelbag-Adventure. Neil, our Travelbag guide, proved a popular guy who always ensured things happened to schedule. Also, his regular evening talks on the culture of Morocco, and the Berber race in particular, was very informative.
Could the trek have been improved?
- Not from my personal point of view. The altitude acclimatisation was sufficient, with each days trekking, barring injuries, within the groups capability. Also, the service provided on trek by the muleteers, food preparation, setting camp, provision of water & chocolate, musical entertainment etc. was excellent.
My Travel Companions.
- What a bunch! I think everyone was of the same opinion ....... they could not believe how a group of individuals, from diverse backgrounds across the UK, could bond together so quickly. I would like to thank everyone for being such great friendly people. It would be nice if, as everyone indicated, we could maintain contact in the future.
Would I do it again?
- Well, I would visit the High Atlas Mountains again, however, I have plans for other mountain regions of the world; Mt Kenya, Kilimanjaro and in particular Mera Peak in the Himalayas. Time, and finance will tell which, if any, comes first ....... however, my heart is swaying in the direction of the exciting challenge of Mera Peak.
