A Round of the Dodds from High Row above Dockray, via Glencoynedale
Weather on the Fells can change rapidly ... up-to-date weather on 0870 0550575
(Distance 10.3 miles)
There is a small parking area at High Row, outside the southern end of Cockley Moor.
Note that the route from below Sheffield Pike over the Dodds down to the old tram track requires care in poor visibility. The area is featureless with little navigational aids.
From the parking area, head down the lane to Dockray, passing some cottages on the right. Once at Dockray, turn right onto the main road to Glenridding, then after a few yards over the bridge, go right onto a track alongside a row of cottages.

Just after the cottages, take the indistinct path off left, heading up between Watermillock Common and Round How. The path gently climbs up the eastern side of Watermillock Common, eventually leveling out overlooking Ullswater.

Continue on this path, soon following the course of a dry-stone wall, then veering right as the path goes into the upper reaches of Glencoynedale. Cross a wall, and continue around the head of Glencoynedale and up to the col between Sheffield Pike and Green Side.

From the col, go right up the steep Fell side, passing to the right of the gouged out area of the disused mine, then gently up to Green Side. From Green Side head westerly, initially down then up to Stybarrow Dodd.

From Stybarrow Dodd, follow the path north, going downhill then veering left in the direction of Watson’s Dodd. A point is reached where the path splits, one right up to Great Dodd, the other left out to Watson’s Dodd. Take the left path for the gentle walk out to Watson’s Dodd.

Once the path levels out, it continues between Wolf Crag and High Brow, to eventually meet the Old Coach Road coming over from St Johns-in-the-Vale. Turn right, following the track back to the car parking area.
