| Steel Fell and Far Easdale from
Grassmere |

Leave the car park in Grassmere at the
northern end of Grasmere, turning left towards the village shops. Take
the road off right, leading to Far Easdale, and follow the narrow road
over Goody Bridge.

Just over the bridge, go right up the
narrow lane. Follow the lane as it skirts around the eastern flank of
Helm Crag then left where the road continues around right up to the
Keswick/Ambleside road.

At the next split in the road (name of
area), go left up hill to the house (name of house) then pass through a
gate onto the Fells. Just through the gate, go right and follow the path
up the ridge of Steel Fell.

After a couple of steep sections, the path
exits onto Steel Fell summit. Go left and continue on the path alongside
the old steel fence.

The path eventually bears away left from
the fence passing close to the tarns at the head of Green Burn valley.
Continue up from the Tarns to join the path running left to right from
Calf Crag to Helm Crag.

Go right and follow the path around to the
top of Far Easedale, then left down into Far Easdale. The path drops
down to reach a foot bridge over Far Easdale Beck.

Cross the bridge and follow the path,
eventually becoming a wide track enclosed by dry-stone walls.

After passing the path (on the left)
coming down from Helm Crag, go right through a steel gate and down to
the track running right up to a farm. Cross the track, pass through a
wooden gate, and follow the path around left then right across open
ground to a stone bridge over far Easedale Beck.

Go left on the stone track, coming down
from Easedale Tarn and Sour Milk Gill, and follow it back over Far
Easdale Beck to the narrow lane. Go right and the lane continues back
over Goody Bridge to Grassmere.
