| Although we started this walk
from Honister YHA (NT car park), the same circuit can be achieved from
Seatoller and close to Grange. |
Walking towards Seatoller, take the path
going left under the foothills of Dale Head down Little Gatesgarth as it
diverges from the road.

Above Seatoller, the path bears left and
joins the Allerdale Ramble then continues over Scaleclose Gill followed
further on by crossing Tongue Gill above Lingy Bank.

Passing between High Spy and Castle Crag,
the wide path now drops down to the western bank of the River Derwent.

From the river, the path continues
passing Hallows Farm to the road leading from Grange to Swanesty How.
Turn left and follow the path up and around High Close Wood, then across
open ground of Yewdel Knott to Manesty, just above the Grange/Hawse End
road.

Follow the path diagonally up hill to Hause
Gate south of Cat Bells. Turn left at the top to continue on to Maiden
Moor.

A steady walk south over Maiden Moor to
High Spy is followed by a gentle descent, rocky in places, to the
outflow from Dalehead Tarn.

Cross the beck and follow the path around
to reach the Tarn, a good lunch spot. The path to Dale Head starts at
the northern end of the Tarn, with a steep climb to above Dalehead Crags
before a gentle approach to the summit marker.

From the large stone marker, follow the
path due south, passing close Yewcrag Quarry, before reaching the road
at Honister Hause and the car park used at the start.
