Glenridding to Fairfield over St Sunday

Weather on the Fells can change rapidly ... up-to-date weather on 0870 0550575

There is a large National Parks car park in Glenridding alongside Glenridding Beck.
(Distance 10.3 miles)
Leave the car park towards the road, cross over the bridge, then right alongside the beck.  Take the footpath off left near the second cottage up to Lanty's Tarn.

Continue past the Tarn, down hill, to where a path drops off left.  Go down the path, cross the bridge over Grisedale Beck, then left on the road towards Patterdale.  Take the next path off right, just past the trees.  The path now climbs up steeply to Thornhow End.

Hear, the path levels out a little as it skirts below Birks.  The path continues above Blind Cove, getting a little steeper, before the final steep pull up to St Sunday.

From St Sunday, continue down to Deepdale Hause.  (Drop-off points here to either Grisedale - right, or Deepdale - Left, if the weather isn't too good for crossing Cofa Pike)

From Deepdale, the path now moves onto steep rocky section leading up to Cofa Pike.  Care is required if poor visibility as the path isn't easy to follow on the rocks.  Once over Cofa Pike, there are two options, either a steep scree ascent to Fairfield, or continue on a gentler incline, but turning left to get to the summit shelters.  Again, not easy navigation in hill fog.

From the summit, head towards Seat Sandal and follow the steep path down to Grisedale Hause.  Turn right at the bottom, and follow the path around the south side of Grisedale Tarn.

At the outflow of the Tarn, follow the path on the left of Grisedale Beck.  The path now drops gently down past Ruthwaite Lodge Climbing Hut and passing Broomhill Plantation.  Here, the path climbs up to meet the path leading to the Hole in the Wall.  Continue through a couple of gates, eventually reaching Lanty's Tarn.
