Bridge
|

Weather on the
Fells can change rapidly ... up-to-date weather on 0870 0550575 |

Great Wood car park is situated on the left side of the Borrowdale
road soon after leaving Keswick. NT members park free if
membership card displayed in window, otherwise it is a pay-and-display |
|
Leave the car park heading south and up through the
woods. The path soon meets a bridge over Cat Gyll, with a
path going off left up to Walla Crag. Cross over the narrow wooden
bridge then down right for a very short distance before turning left.

The path now continues south down Borrowdale on the
Fell side under Falcon Crag with great views ........ on a clear day
...... over Derwent Water.

The path eventually passes through a dry-stone wall and
drops down to the road at Ashness bridge. Cross over the bridge,
then follow the path for a short distance up the side of Ashness Beck
until reaching the wooden bridge over the beck.

Cross over the bridge and follow the path as it climbs
steadily up hill towards Walla Crag.

A dry-stone wall is eventually reached. Pass
through the gate/over the stile (cannot remember which!) and follow the path up to the top of Walla Crag, where there
are excellent opportunities for photographs.

The walk continues on the path above Wall Crag to
reach the same wall crossed earlier. Pass through the gate and go
left down hill to the stream close to the farm yard.

Cross the bridge and follow the lane left until the
path off to the left. Follow this path, crossing the stream again,
then going right above the stream. Go left at the wall and into
Great Wood.

Continue on the path for a short distance, then right
down diagonally through the woods. Avoid all paths and tracks off
left and right.

Near the bottom, take the narrow path off left through
the bushes to reach the car park, and the end of the walk.
