Awake at about 0600 and left the
tent for photos at 0630. Temperature in my tent was -8 deg C at 0730
....... a little chilly! It had been a noisy night too, through snow
falls and avalanches on the Mera mountain range. Some of the cracks were
quite loud as the snow/ice broke away.

There had been a good covering of
snow overnight, too, but with the now cloud-free skies the scenery was
superb. Deep blue sky, pure white snow and deep grey rocks. Fantastic!
It was also to be my last day of strip-washing outside!

It was a leisurely ‘stroll’ up
the track to Khare Base Camp, arriving at about 1100'ish. This was to be
our ‘home’ for the next few nights, other than the night we spent at
High Base Camp prior to our summit attempt.

Having had lunch, we were all given
our prussic loops and introduced to the procedures for escaping from
crevasses. (Thankfully, the procedures were not required.)

More snow fell during the day, so it
was in the sleeping bag again for warmth and comfort.
