What follows is a brief description, accompanied by photographs, of my trek to Mera Peak ......... an experience I shall cherish for many years to come.  Sorry about the wrong times on the photographs ...... forgot about the time-zone change between UK and Nepal

Mera Peak (6431m/21000ft) is located in the Hinku Valley, Himalaya, Nepal, and some 16 miles (28 km) south of Mt Everest. The Mera range consists of 3 individual peaks, Central (the main trekking peak) and North and South summits. Although the ascent is non-technical, it is still classed as a mountaineering expedition because of its location, altitude and terrain.

Our western guide was Mick Chapman, who actually lives about 40 miles from me in the UK, and coincidently, has the exact same name as a colleague of mine at work ....... scary or what! Mick was ably assisted by Dowa and other Sherpa guides.

Meet the Group

Sadly, a great member of our group, Lucci, died in a ski avalanche in the Canadian Rockies on 20th January 2003.  I and Lucci, a great companion and fellow trekker, spent many happy hour chatting while trekking during the day.  A guy who loved the mountains, be it trekking or his favourite sport skiing, he brought joy and laughter to everyone in the group during our stay in Nepal.  In the words of his dear family:
"Enjoy each day to its fullest, when working and playing, the way Jean-Luc did all his life"
Rest in peace Lucci.
