The morning started with breakfast at the hotel, then
departure at 0830 in the 4x4, trek bags on the roof and rucksacks
inside. We followed the same road out of La Paz as for our visit to
Chacaltaya, and once on the high plain, it was along the same road towards
Lake Titicaca.

After a while, we turned right off
the tarmac road onto a very dusty and bumpy track. We continued on
the track, bouncing about until we finally arrived at the settlement of
Tuni. The point where the drive stopped and the walking started.

Once all the equipment was on the mules, we set off for
our base camp - a 3 hour gentle trek into the mountains. We soon
arrived at Lake Tuni above the settlement, and once around it we ventured
deep into the valley.

The path was easy and only the odd
little 'bump' to go over. Plenty of Llama roaming around .... with
our approach causing them to raise their heads and stare.

Eventually, we arrived at the lake with the Base Camp
area on the far shore. Stunning views across the lake to the
Condirri range of mountains.

glacier visible which will lead us up to Pequena Alpamayo)
