After a very early breakfast, we left for the domestic terminal of Kathmandu Airport for the very exciting 35 minute flight to Lukla. The sloping narrow runway is an amazing way to arrive at Lukla. After a second breakfast, we start the trek with an easy downhill leg from Lukla to Phakding, following the course of the Duhd Koshi (Milk River). After the first night in a tent, we followed the river through pine forest to Jorsale village and the entrance to the Khumbu National Park.

A suspension bridge is crossed, one of many, and about an hour and a half below Namche Bazaar, at an altitude of around 3400 metres, the first view of Everest is seen. We spend 2 nights camping at Namche in the grounds of one of the many lodges. On the second day we have an acclimatisation walk up the valley to Phunte village. One thing about Namche Bazaar, a good set of earplugs are needed as the many dogs bark all night ...... I renamed the place Namche Bark!
