Island Peak to Lukla, via Chukung, Tyangboche and Namche Bazaar -------

forest from Namche Bazaar |
| We left Chukung on a gentle descent down the valley, looking
back at Island Peak with a deep heart. Anyway, it was onwards and
downwards, with great views to start with, then clouds started to enclose
the summits. We followed the valley through the villages of Dingboche and
Pangboche, eventually arriving at our forest camp at Thyangboche. Stunning
location, with views up to the monastery nestling on the hill, and rising
snow-covered peaks all around. Pleasant afternoon in the hot sun, followed
by dinner in the lodge, set me up for a pleasant night in bed. |
| The following morning we walked up to the monastery and
spent about an hour looking around, before descending the steep path to
the village of Phunki, to the bridge crossing the Dudh Kosi. Just above
Phunki we rejoin the original path to Gokyo which we followed back to
Namche, having first had lunch at the lodge we stopped at on the way to
Goyko lakes. |
| We spent one night at Namche, we were had a couple of drinks
in a pool bar - it was a good night! In the morning, we followed the path
descending steeply to the Dhud Khosi, making our way to the village where
we camped the first night. The following morning, after our last night in
a tent, we set of for Lukla arriving there for lunch. We had our final
night in the lodge above the airstrip, and said goodbye in the
afternoon/evening to all our crew to celebrate the end of what had been a
great Himalayan adventure. |
