There is a small car park at
the end of Chanctonbury Ring Road, which is the start of the walk.
Although shown as a ring road on the OS map, it is actually a single
lane metalled road that ends at the car park. |
Leave the car park, turning left, and follow the
track passing through a steel gate. Stay on the track as it winds up Wiston Bostal
track passing through Chalkpit Wood. At the top it joins the South Downs
Way.

Turn left to join the South Downs Way, then
continue following the wide track southeast.

The South Downs Way eventually passes through a
gate where there is a footpath junction (fingerpost). Just through
the gate is a small memorial to a local farmer, surrounded by metal
seating.

Do not pass through the gate, but turn right to
join the Monarch's Way. The wide track continues southwest as it
drops down to a small wooded area known as No Mans Land. Here the Monarch's
Way continues southwest, but turn right to follow a track up hill along
side the bushes of No Mans Land. At the top, the path veers to head southwest.

A track junction is reached, with right going
back up to the South Downs Way, and left going towards the village of
Findon. Continue straight on, then after a few yards take the narrow
footpath off to the right. Continue on the narrow path, enclosed by
bushes, until the entrance to Gallops Farm. |
 |
Take the footpath off to the right, passing
through a small field, to exit through a gate to a metalled road.
Cross the road to go down a concrete track, turning left at the
bottom. Continue past Pest House, following the wide farm track path
as it continues northwest.

A track 'crossroad' is soon reached as the track
levels out. Turn right and follow the wide track up hill. The track
merges with the South Downs Way just before Chanctonbury Hill.

The South Downs Way continues east just below
Chanctonbury Hill. A Triangulation Point marks the top of
Chanctonbury Hill, which gives fine views to the North Downs, and east
and west over the South Downs.

Rejoin the track, continuing east passing
Chanctonbury Ring to the left, to the point where the walk joined the South
Downs Way at the start. Turn left and follow the Wiston Bostal
track back to the car park.
