There is a small parking area on the road just after
turning onto Walderton/Stoughton road from the West Marden/Westbourne B2146
road.
|
Cross the road from the car park and join the
footpath going through a paddock and up to the woods. Turn left at
the woods and go down the wide track. At the bottom, turn right and
go up hill diagonally through the woods. At the top, go right and
follow the fenced path onto Walderton Down, leaving the wood.

The path is enclosed now until the woods are
reached. Take the path into the woods, then straight left onto a
track. Follow the track east to were a path goes left and down hill
right.

Go down hill, leaving the woods with views south to
East Ashling and the English Channel. The path turns right at
Kingley Vale, then left at the bottom. Continue on this path,
avoiding the paths off left and right, to a path leading up to Bow Hill.
Turn onto this path and go up to Bow Hill and into
Kingley Vale. Turn right at the top onto the Western Down Cycle Way,
and continue along the top of Kingley Vale to Blackbushe House in the
woods.

Continue on the track leaving the house to the left,
to eventually meet a track crossing left to right, coming up from the
Chilgrove road and going southwest to Lambdown Hill car park.

At this point, cross over the stile and follow the
path through an open field over Chilgrove Down to Hillbarn, passing
through a couple of gates on the way. Leave the fields following a
track past houses on the right, then soon off left onto the footpath
around the farm yard, passing a Caravan Club campsite.

At the end, cross a stile onto a narrow track, turn
right for a short distance to an access road, then left along the road for
a short distance. On nearing the house at the end , take the
footpath off to the right down East Marden Down. At the bottom of a
steep hill, go left on the path leading along to the farm at East Marden.

Keep left on the concrete road to join the narrow
lane at a rather smart barn conversion. Go right up to the water
well in the middle of the road, then left for a few yards. Take the
path off to the left, crossing a paddock to a stile. Cross over,
then left on the path down the side of the field. Follow it right at
the end, then left down the end of the field into the woods.
Continue up the steep hill through the woods to the road at Up Marden.

Go left down the road, then onto the path off left
through a stable block yard, and across the paddock to the stile.
Cross the stile, and follow the path through the woods, then across the
field to a new flintstone house at a track. Go left, then off onto
the path to the right in a dip. Follow the path into the centre of
the second field, then right down to Pitlands Farm.

Join the road at Pitlands Farm, going left in
the direction of Walderton, then off to the left on the footpath.
Follow the path up to the top of the wooded area, then off to the right
across open fields. Cross the narrow lane, then continue on the path
to the back of the house gardens, then left between the houses to the road
at Walderton.

Turn right, then not too far left onto a
footpath. This meets the road running through to East Marden from
Walderton. Turn right for a short walk back to the parking area.
