There is a large Country Park car park at the eastern
end of Goodwood race course, on the opposite side of the road to the race
track.
|
Cross the road to the end of the race course and take
the left-hand track, through the gate, going down alongside the race track.

Continue on this track as it heads down through
Charlton Wood to meet Charlton village.

Follow the lane past the village houses to meet the country lane running
through Charlton village. Turn left along the road, then after as short
distance, right onto the track going down the side of the country hotel.

Follow this track north as it winds between Levin Down
and North Down eventually reaching the entrance to the southern end of
Charlton Forest. Just through the gate into the woods, before the
derelict flint building, turn left up a path (north) for a short distance to
join a wide gravel woodland track.

Continue on this track north through the forest,
avoiding paths/tracks off left and right, eventually to meet the South Downs
Way just east of Heyshott Down. Turn right onto the South Downs Way.

Head east for about 2 miles, along the South Downs way
to Graffham Down, then at a rather large ‘4 direction’ fingerpost, take
the path off south, passing down through Lamb Lea. Exit Lamb Lea into a very
pleasant large valley.

Head down the valley to where a wide track goes right,
then cross the stile into the small field adjacent to the track. Cross the
field diagonally left to reach a stile exiting the field into the woods.

Head up the path (left to right) through the wood to
meet a gravel woodland track. Turn right and follow the track down to the
wood entrance then onto a narrow track enclosed by hedgerows. Follow this
track to the country lane at East Dean, the same lane joined at the start
of the walk at Charlton.

 |
Turn right and follow the road through the village
for a short distance to the Village Green with small pond. At the Green,
leave the (name of road) going left up the narrow lane to just under the
overhead power cables.

 |
Take the path off right having passed under the
overhead cables, passing down a small field alongside the fence, then up
hill to the stile at the northern end of East Dean Park wood. Go up
through the wood into a large open area, then through this area to the top
left-hand side to a stile re-entering the wood. Join this path going
through the wood to exit onto the road opposite the car park used at the
start of the walk.
