There is a car park at Eartham Wood, off the Eartham
Road, having turned right off the Petworth Road from the A27 east of
Chichester.
|
Leave the car park at the eastern corner and follow
the path to meet the wide gravel forest track. Turn right and go to the
road, turn left for a short distance, then take the path off left down the
side of the house. Follow the wide path on the track into the southern end
of Eartham Wood.

Continue on this path, following the southern edge
of the wood, until where it rises up hill. At the top of the rise, go up
right in the direction of Nore Down. (confirm) When the path
levels out, go a little further into the wood, then off left down the wide
track. Continue on the track, leaving the wood and skirting around right
to The Folly, sitting above Slindon Village.

From The Folly, join the path on the left that follows
the hedgerow of the track leading up to The Folly. The path joins a farm
track at the bottom, turn left onto this track and continue down to the road
at Courthill Farm at Slindon.

Go right, then soon off left onto a path going up
alongside the road. At the top, turn left onto Butts Lane, a wide farm
track.

Follow Butts Lane north, enclosed in a narrow strip of
trees, to just below Great Down. The track continues up left to Gumber Farm,
but here turn right, then left onto a long fence-enclosed path going north
to Great Down.

Leave Great Down into a wood, then a few yards later
go right, passing across a thin strip of field, then right followed by
left.

Pass down through woods to a wide track. At the track,
go left following the as it track skirting around the left of Little Bottom
Wood.

Soon a path is met going right-to-left at the top,
with the path currently on continuing straight up. Go left here, then just
after the bench off right to soon join the South Downs Way. Go left on the
South Downs Way and across a grazing field to Burton Down.

Pass through the gate at the end of the field,
then left down the side of the field, keeping on the path as it bears
right to meet the next path (crossing left to right). Turn right and
continue into the northern end of Eartham Wood.

Keep on this track as it continues along the top of
Eartham Wood until the open field on the right. At the mid point of the
field, join the path heading south. (There are wooden bars across the
path.)

end of Eartham Woods)

Continue south on the path as it becomes a gravel
track, eventually meeting the path off right near the road, giving access
to the car park. This is the same path used at the start of the walk. Go
right back to the car park.
