Parking is limited on the
East Meon roads, however there
is a small car park which is signposted from the village centre, where the
Meon River passes under the road. |
|
Leave the car park and head across the paddock towards the new houses,
heading for the gap in the centre of the houses. Pass through, and follow
the road around to the right, then left, to meet a country lane. Go left
along the lane, with houses on the left, then soon right onto a footpath
passing through a small parking area. Cross over the broken stile in the
right corner of the parking area, then up across the field, heading for
the hedge at the corner.

Continue on the path on the left
side of the field, along the hedge, then at the end of the hedge, bear
right across a small field. ( a marker post indicates the path) At the
tree-hedge, continue towards the woods on the left side of the field. Pass
over a stile, go left up a steep section and through the 5-bar gate.

Go left along the track to where
the track passes into the next field. Turn right here, going up the short
but steep hill, on the right side of the fence. Cross another stile just
before the top. Carry on after the stile to the gate at the top.

Go left through the gate, and follow the path along the top to Salt Hill.
After passing through the second gate, bear right down into a dip, then up
the other side to a stile. Cross the stile to join the South Downs Way,
then left and down to the main road. Go left, crossing the road, and
follow the road with some rather larges houses down to the right. The path
diverges from the road for a short distance, but meets it again at a
cross-roads.

Take the second right (The first right goes to the Bat and Ball pub at
Hambledon), passing on the right side of a wooded triangle. Soon at the
next junction, cross the road onto the wide track. (Left goes to East
Meon, right down to Lovedean) Follow the track over Hyden Hill and Tegdown
Hill, with the expanse of the Meon Valley down to the left.

The track eventually meets the road leading up to Butser Hill from
Clanfield. Go left and follow the road towards Butser Hill, avoiding the
lane of to the left.

Where the road bears right going up to the parking area, take the wide
path off left down the western side of Butser Hill. Continue down to the
bottom, then left along the track leading to Leythe House.

Follow the track to meet the country lane at Leythe
House.

Turn left here, down the lane, until the wide
bridleway/footpath enclosed by trees/bushes. Turn right and follow the
track until a cross-roads of tracks in a clearing. Take the left track,
which can be boggy after rain, and continue until the road is reached. Go
right along the lane until the small bridge over the Meon River.

Take the path off to the right, on the right side of
the river and in front of a row of cottages. Follow the path through an
allotment area, then left and through a narrow passage between the house.
Go right, back alongside the river, in front of the houses.
