There is a small parking area on the road just after
turning onto Walderton/Stoughton road from the West Marden/Westbourne B2146
road.
|
Leaving the parking area, heading down the Stoughton
road to just passed the village green area on the left, then off left on
the path passing outside a rather grand house. After a short distance, go
left on the lane then soon off left onto a path between houses.

Follow the path up to the end of the gardens, then
right continuing over fields, crossing a narrow lane leading down to
Walderton on the way. Where the path exits the fields at the end of the
woods, go right down to Stoughton village green.

From the green, go left along the road until the farm track going off
right, which is also the next path. Join this track and continue to the
top of Stoughton Down, where there are a variety of tracks in the woods.
The path required continues straight on the wide forest track, signposted
between the required track and one to the right.

The path soon arrives at an old 5-bar gate in the
depth of the woods, adjacent to Blackbushe House. Pass around the gate,
going down the side of Blackbushe House perimeter fence, then along the
path/track to the end of the woods.

Go left at the end, dropping down the outer edge of
the woods, eventually meeting a wide gravel woodland track. Go right and
follow the track to the car park below Lambdown Hill. Leave the car park,
going right on the country lane in the direction of East Marden. After a
short distance, go off left onto the path following the access track to a
house and barn conversion. Avoid the first path on the left.

The path goes right up a steep'ish hill right,
initially alongside the house, then into the northern end of Inholmes
Wood. Continue
through the wood when it levels out, crossing over a track, then soon
reaching the edge of the wood.

Go left, then straight right, following the path on
the right side of the fields and adjacent to the hedgerow. Continue to
follow this path, soon becoming a track, until the narrow lane at Up
Marden. Turn right, going up the road for a short distance, then off left
onto a footpath over a stile. Follow the path/track down hill to the ‘T’
junction of paths, then go left skirting around the left side of a field
enclosed by Grevitts Copse and Haslett Copse.

Enter the woods, following the track around to the
right, then soon after follow the track left up hill, while another track
continues straight on. Pass a cottage and house on the left, then straight
on where a wide track goes off at right-angles to the right. Follow the
path through Haslett Copse, eventually reaching the road down from
Pitlands Farm.

Cross the road and follow the path alongside the
left side of the field, then up through the woods. Where the path levels
out, go off right onto the path through the fields, the same used at the
start of the walk. Retrace the route now back to the car park at
Walderton.

Join the road at Pitlands Farm, going left in
the direction of Walderton, then off to the left on the footpath.
Follow the path up to the top of the wooded area, then off to the right
across open fields. Cross the narrow lane, then continue on the path
to the back of the house gardens, then left between the houses to the road
at Walderton.

Turn right, then not too far left onto a
footpath. This meets the road running through to East Marden from
Walderton. Turn right for a short walk back to the parking area.
