Leave the end of the car park to the right of the entrance, following the
footpath to meet the gravel forest track. Turn left and follow the track
north until it ends at a T junction with another track, on the edge of an

Go right on the track to exit Eartham Woods near
Burton Down. After continuing a short distance, go left up the footpath
over Burton Down to reach the South Downs Way. (photo: A back west along the South Downs Way) |

Go right through the gate, along the SDW across the field, and through the
gate at the end. Go a little further on the SDW, then left up an enclosed
track, passing the radio masts to the left, and out into an open area.
Continue on the track down hill towards Farm Hill, turning right at the

Follow the enclosed path, keeping left along the edge of the field, (avoid
paths off to the right) to reach a gate at the corner of the field below

Pass through the small gate, up the track then down
between two fields to meet another track. (A footpath continues over the

Go left at this track to meet the Petworth road
close to Dogkennel cottages. Head down to the cottages, then across the
road onto the footpath going through the farm yard opposite the

Pass through the yard with the storage barn to the
left, then along the farm track going up from the left storage barn. At
the end of the field, go left along the footpath paralleling the main

Go down left on the SDW, back across the Petworth road at

Stay on the SDW, eventually reaching the gate used

Pass through the gate again, across the field and through the second gate,
then off right at the next footpath, before the track off left is reached
that was used earlier in the walk. Follow the path down to meet a stile at

Cross the stile and follow the path southerly, eventually reaching Eartham
Wood. Enter the wood and follow the wide track to merge with the track
close to the lane leading to Eartham. Go up right for a short distance on
the gravel track, then left
