A Circuit East from above
Cocking |
| Distance 9.5 miles |
| Parking is available
on the left off the Midhurst road, heading north from Chichester, just
before going down hill into Cocking. The car park, adjacent to the South
Downs Way, is not signposted and enclosed by hedges so easy to miss! |
Leave the car park onto the verge of the road, and
follow the road south in the direction of Chichester. The road soon
enters a couple of gentle bends (first left then right) at Wolverstone
Farm. Just after the farm on the left side, walk up a concrete
track for a couple of yards, then go left onto a footpath into Singleton
Wood.

The path soon reaches the track
again, go left then straight right back onto a path. Continue up hill
through the woods. The path soon follows the outside of the wood,
turning south to reach Broadham House and a path crossroads.

Continue straight on, diagonally
up the hill, to soon rejoin the track from Broadham House. Follow
the footpath downhill on the track, avoiding other footpaths off at the
top. After a sharp left bend, turn right at the track junction, and go
south on the track to where the track bends right. At the start of the
bend, take the path off left up North Down.

The track now goes just north of
east across a field into Wood Lea, with marker posts at the start, plus
in the middle of the field. Follow the path in the wood for a short
distance to a ‘cross roads’, then go right exiting into a field
north of Court Hill.

Follow the footpath, initially on
the right of the woods, then across the field to where it meets a path
alongside a hedge coming up from East Dean.

Turn left and follow the path
alongside the hedge to the wooded area. Go right onto the first
footpath, along the edge of the woods, then down to the track coming
past Newhouse farm.

Turn left onto this track and
follow it to a steel gate at the end. Pass through the gate and up the
path northeast over the large open valley to the entrance to Lamb Lea
wood.

Pass through the gate then up the
path through Lamb Lea, crossing over a wide track, to eventually reach
the South Downs Way at Graffham Down.

Turn left and follow the South
Downs Way, first above Heyshott Down then Manorfarm Down, before
dropping down to the car park.
