There is a large car park, with toilet facilities, on the right after
joining the B4405 leading to Lyn Mwyngil from the A487.
|
Leave the parking area passing the toilets and follow the track down to the
gate. (There are large Cadair Idris signs showing the way.) Go through the
gate following the path left around a house then across the footbridge.

The path now climbs uphill through the woods with the fast flowing stream
cascading down on the right. On exiting the wood, continue on the
easy-to-follow footpath on the left of the stream.

Caution: This stream is crossed at the return of the walk down from
Mynydd Moel, so assess the flow on the outward leg. After heavy rain, it can
become impassable most of the way back up to Llyn Cau.

On approaching Llyn Cau, branch off left onto the path up to the ridge to
the left of the Llyn.

Continue up hill, getting great views over the Llyn to Cadair Idris. At the
top, bear right and follow the path around the top.

The path continues to the top, rocky in places, although not too steep.
Descend the other side, then follow the rocky path to the summit of Cadair
Idris.

From the summit, head northwest across the flat barren top to Mynydd Moel.
(Good navigation required in poor visibility) From Mynydd Moel, return to
the fence previous crossed, then left to follow the line of the fence
downhill .... but not crossing back over the fence.

The path becomes steep and a little rocky in places, eventually reaching
a style going right. Cross the style and follow the path to meet Nant Cadair
at the corner of the pine forest. Cross the stream to rejoin the
path at the start of the walk.

Retrace the route used at the start, down through the woods to return the
car park.
