A very small parking area is available at the start of the path leading up
Birds Rock.
|
|
Cross the lane and head down the path follow the road through the campsite
at Llanllwyda. Cross over the Afon Dysynn then right to follow the line of
the fence. Go right and follow the left edge of the field, alongside the
hedge, to a gate at the start of a track.
|
|
Go through the gate and follow the track to where it meets a narrow lane at
Pen-y-meini. Turn left and follow the lane, crossing over the river, and
then to the right continuing for a short distance to Bodilan Fach.

Close to the caravan area, take the bridlepath off to the left. The path now
zigzags steeply uphill, crossing a few styles, though avoiding the wide
track that veers off to the left. The path levels out to the northeast of
Esgair Berfa, and branches off right where the wide track continues up to
the summit.

Continuing around, above the valley on the right, passing to the left of the
small round summit leading up to Braich Ddu. Pass through a gate, then
follow an indistinct footpath around to the right, dropping slowly down to
meet a track at the corner of the pine forest below Trawsfynydd.

Turn left, and follow the track around and to below Allt-lwyd where the
track becomes a tarmac road above Cwm Uchaf. Go down the road for a short
distance from the cattle-grid, then off left on a footpath down the bank
into Cwm Uchaf. The footpath goes right and gently drops through bracken to
outside a farm house.

Avoid the track leading to the farm, but continue for a short distance on
the path through the bracken. Take the path off left down and over a small
bridge spanning a stream. Cross a style into a paddock, crossing over to the
next alongside a tree. Continue over and head down the hill towards the
trees, keeping a watch for the path marker post with a yellow band.

Follow the path down which exits to the left of Tyn-y-cornel Farm cottage
(where we stayed!) close to some run-down barns. Go left here, then straight
up left to the gate.

Go through the gate, follow the path alongside the wall and through the next
gate/style, continuing to another gate. Go through, then follow the track
down and right through the woods to open area with views of Birds Rock.
Follow the path and through the gate to a tarmac road. Turn left and follow
the road up to Dysefin Farm.

On approaching the farm entrance, take the grassy footpath off left uphill
along the back of the farm. Continue along the path alongside the trees to
the left, passing an rundown building, to exit close to a stream. Go right
to the gate in the corner, pass through, and follow the path alongside the
fence.

river, giving access to the campsite used at the start of the walk. retrace
the earlier route back to the parking area.
