Tryfan via the South Ridge, returning via the Track in the valley to
the east of Tryfan, then along the north shore of Llyn Ogwen |
There is a pay-and-display car park at Ogwen Cottage. If full,
there is plenty of road-side parking along the A5 road, in particular
opposite Llyn Ogwen. There is also Toilets and Shop facilities at
the car park area.

Join the constructed footpath that is to
the left of the buildings, avoiding the path right between the high rocks
of Pen y Benglog. Continue over the footbridge of the stream and
follow the path until it branches right to Llyn Idwal. At this
point, join the path that leads off left, southeast, heading towards Llyn
Bochlwyd. The path eventually follows the course of the Nant
Bochlwyd cascading from Llyn Bochlwyd.

From Llyn Bochlwyd, continue on the path
towards the Bwlch Tryfan between Tryfan’s South Ridge and Bristly
Ridge. At Bwlch Tryfan, a stile passes over the wall leading on to
the Miners Track. Turn left before the wall and follow the path up
as it skirts to the left of Tryfan’s Far South Peak.

The path eventually meets another walled area, with a stile leading to The
Heather Terrace, just past the Far South Peak. Again, do not cross the
wall but continue upwards just right of north. From here, the route can be
either straight up the ridge, or slightly to the left (west side) either way it
is over large rocky terrain. Avoid the right side of the South Ridge as it
is seriously steep!

A small level boulder area is reached before the final approach to the
summit. From here, the route drops slightly, then a gentle scramble to
reach the top of Tryfan .... and the famous Adam & Eve.

Retrace the route back down to the wall giving access to The Heather
Terrace. Cross over the stile and descend the loose rocky path to the
valley floor, joining Track.

Turn left and follow the path, gently
descending in stages, heading towards the road (road number). Turn left just
before Tryfan Bach and follow the path to a stile over a fence. A vague
path leads northwest down the hillside to join a track a short walk from the A5.

Cross the road, then follow the track past Glan Dena to the entrance of the
farm at Tal y Llyn Ogwen. Here the path passes around the back of the
farm. Go slightly up hill, cross over the stile and follow the marker
posts west across the boggy ground. The path is not easy to follow until
about half way along Llyn Ogwen.

Continue on the path to the outflow from Llyn Ogwen. The path passes
below rocks on the right until the outflow from Llyn Ogwen goes under the
A5. At this point the path turns left and joins the road. Turn left
on the road, and return to the car park.
