From Idwal Cottage car park, join the constructed footpath
to
the left of the buildings, avoiding the path right between the high rocks
of Pen y Benglog. Continue over the footbridge and follow the
path as it branches right to Llyn Idwal.

Cross over the footbridge at Llyn Idwal and follow the path to the start
of the ascent to Y Garn. Commence the ascent as the path winds,
first left then right, steeply up to
the Llyn Clyd. Continue up the path above Pinnacle Crags, curving left, as it approaches the final steep section to Y Garn.

The path follows the left side and in
places is quite steep.
On reaching the top, turn left and complete the short walk to Y
Garn. The top is marked with a rather small stone wind-break shelter.
From Y Garn, head southeast down the path
as it gentle descends to Llyn y Cwn.

There are two paths, the one
marked on the OS map following the contour of the left edge overlooking
Llyn Idwal. A second, not shown on the OS map, tracks a direct line to the
Llyn. Llyn y Cwn can be seen from Y Garn nestled under the Upper
Cliffs of Glyder Fawr.

Join the path at the left side of Llyn y Cwn, and soon after take the path off left
leading round to Twll Du (The Devil's Kitchen). (Avoid the path heading
southeast up the scree slope to Glyder Fawr.) The path now becomes steep, rocky, and stepped as it drops into the
bowl of Cwn Idwal.

Follow the path right at the bottom above Llyn
Idwal. This traverses below the Upper Cliffs of Glyder Fawr to meet the footbridge
crossed at the start. Retrace the route used at the start back to the car park.
